Chapter Nine. Long Documents

One look at the size of this book and you know why the topic of long documents is so exciting to me. But everyone has a different opinion about what a long document is. Some die-hard technical writers insist that if it isn’t over 1,000 pages, it’s not a long document. Others maintain that a document longer than five or ten pages qualifies. Personally, I think that anyone building a book, a magazine, a newspaper, a journal, or a catalog—no matter how many pages—is dealing with long documents.
