You’re motivated. Your tools are ready. It’s time to draw! The first stage of any realistic drawing is the sketch. The function of the sketch is to place the reference image on your drawing sheet, so that from the shading steps onwards you no longer have to worry about the proportions of the drawing. In this sense, we must draw not only the contour lines, but also include references for shading and textures. A series of sketch examples in the following chapters show how this will be done in practice.
