Texture is a key component of realistic drawing because no other drawing style addresses it in such a detailed way. Through careful manipulation of light and shadow, we can create effects that simulate skin, fur, metal, and a host of other textures. That may sound daunting, but don’t worry, dear reader. Our goal is not to draw a perfect copy of a reference image, but rather an approximation of it that evokes a very similar sense of depth, tone, and volume.
