Creating Realistic Still-Life Textures
Using a small collection of pencils with a few directional strokes, it’s possible to draw delicate flower petals, reflective glass and waterdrops, aged and new leather, intricate wood grain, dimpled fruit, lace fabric, and so much more. Whenever an object is challenging for me to draw, I remind myself that it’s just a shape, color, and value. It has a form and a particular color, and its lighting is dark, medium, or light.
Over the years of drawing and painting still-life artworks, I have come to favor a collection of objects that are fun to arrange or look for in a still-life composition.
