The selection process
The selection process is becoming increasingly sophisticated. Although the traditional interview remains at the heart of the process, employers are making more use of testing techniques to sit alongside the interview and improve the reliability of the selection decision.
Figure 4.1 highlights the match between different selection methods and eventual job performance. What it shows is that some tests and assessment centres offer a ‘far better than chance'prediction of performance on the job whereas an unstructured interview, on its own, is a relatively poor predictor of performance.
