There is more to administration than making sure that the system itself is running properly. You must keep the users of the system running as well.
Adding Users
As you've probably discovered by now, user data and group information are stored in two files:[1]/etc/passwd and /etc/group. The /etc/passwd file stores usernames, encrypted passwords, real names, and other user information. The /etc/group file stores group information and lists the groups of which the user is a member.
