So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Using SAMBA
The networking protocol used by Microsoft Windows is called SMB, or the Server Message Block protocol. Although Microsoft refers to this kind of networking as Windows networking, in fact it is used by many operating systems.
Microsoft Windows clients running an SMB-based network architecture can communicate with your Linux server using a Linux implementation of SMB called SAMBA. You can find more information on SAMBA at
It's important to understand that SAMBA is not the same as NFS. If you have a mixed network, with Windows clients and Unix clients, you can allow the Unix clients to mount with NFS and the Windows clients to connect to the SAMBA server—but the two must be managed separately.
