UPA: Redesigning Animation

UPA films were among the first animated cartoons to express a Modern simplicity in animated cinema. Although independent animators had done this before worldwide, UPA artists were the first to conduct stylistic research and experimentation that incorporated Modern artistic expressions in films that were intended for the U.S. entertainment industry. UPA artists did not create art for art’s sake but rather operated within the economic rules established by the market.
