In cyclotron resonance devices (gyrotrons, gyro klystrons, gyro traveling-wave tubes, and gyro backward-wave oscillators), the electrons in the electron beam have substantial motion perpendicular to the axis of the beam and the solenoidal focusing magnetic field. They interact with radio-frequency electric fields perpendicular to the magnetic focusing field.
