Picture the scene. A group of business leaders get together to discuss strategic and political issues of the day, perhaps hosted by a headhunter or consulting firm. Someone around the table refers to a news item from earlier that day. “Oh”, you say, “I never read the news.” That doesn’t sound very plausible, does it?
How about a different scenario where the discussion turns to returns on investment for some project or another. “Actually,” you say, “I can’t really do sums like that.” Also not sounding good?
