March 19, 2006, was my first day working for the St. Louis Cardinals. I can still remember going from field to field at the Jupiter, Florida, spring training complex. I was immediately impressed with the intensity and focus from the players and the coaches. It was clear that this was a world-class organization. These guys weren’t out there just throwing balls around and slowly getting warmed up to play “real” games once the season began.
