It's like Gail in Coronation Street. I only watch Coronation Street so I can only talk about it – it's almost as if you know her so I think “I wonder what she'll do about this baby” – almost like someone you work with in the office.

Soap operas, British, American, Australian, are part of the everyday lives of their audience. They depict everyday happenings and they also form part of the cultural exchanges which go on in both the home and the workplace. A large part of the enjoyment which is derived from watching soap operas is talking about them with other people.
