Abstract
The economy of a nation depends upon its industrial growth, which needs a regular supply of fuel. We live in a world of new possibilities and challenges. Among many problems, the main emerging problem is our environment. Environmental harm, as well as a gap between supply and demand, a hike in prices and limited stock, are forcing nations to rethink their use of fossil fuels. So, development of alternate fuel, i.e., biofuel, is the need of society. Biofuel or biodiesel is the future fuel as its consumption retards carbon emission and will allow the economy to reap its benefits. This chapter reviews the biodiesel sources, their environmental impacts and industrial applications. In addition, different fuel properties of biodiesel are compared with conventional diesel also.
Keywords: Biodiesel, fuel properties, non-edible seeds, biodiesel application
12.1 Introduction
