Abstract

The vehicular emissions in India have seen a staggering increase in the last few decades owing to the tremendous expansion of the automobile sector. This has led to dire environmental and health impacts. The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles must be done away with either by bolstering Electric Vehicles (EVs) or by utilizing hydrogen as a potential alternative to fossil fuels. For hydrogen to be used as a potential fuel source we need to scale up research & development and manufacturing of the fuel cell systems for vehicles. This short review attempts to underscore the importance of hydrogen fuel cells as a cleaner power source to drive vehicles. It includes a series of recommendations to further the case for hydrogen and fuel cells in India.
