Wind Energy Conversion Systems
Abstract
The chapter discusses wind characteristics: average wind speed (mean), wind speed duration curve, variations of wind speed with height, wind speed variations with time, wind rose, wind shear, wind gust and wind speed distribution and probability density functions. It also discusses: the aerodynamic theory of windmills, the wind power profile, basic elements of wind energy conversion systems (WECS), all types of wind turbines, wind generators, and WECS schemes for generating tlectricity, and siting and sizing of WECS, application of WECSs, and hybrid wind/photovoltaic energy conversion systems.
