Chapter 5

Emerging Renewable Energy Sources

Abstract

The United States is the world’s largest user of energy. Most of energy production is based on fossil fuels: oil, gas, and coal. These are resources are going to eventually run out. Since energy production goes up year by year, the rate at which these fuels are burned is also increasing. It is therefore necessary that we invest time and money into researching and developing new renewable energy resources. Discussion of these sources includes the following:

Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC): schemes, advantages, and disadvantages

Tidal energy: tidal periodicity, amplitude and power output calculation, tidal energy conversion systems, and advantages and disadvantages of tidal power ...
