Introduction

Since 2018, the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (Institut national de recherche pour l’agriculture, l’alimentation et l’environnement [INRAE]) has made a repository for reporting and depositing research data available to its researchers. This repository, called Data INRAE1, is based on the open-source application Dataverse2. We asked Esther Dzalé Yeumo, head of the “Digital Science” unit within the Directorate for Open Science (Direction pour la Science Ouverte, DipSO), about the choice of this solution, its advantages for an institute such as INRAE and, more generally, its functionalities and uses.

What is the purpose of the Data INRAE repository?

Data INRAE is one of the major components of the institution’s e-infrastructure and as such contributes to the management, dissemination and reuse of the institution’s data, as stipulated in the INRA Charter (INRA 2016) and the more recent document on principles for Data INRAE governance (INRAE 2020).

The Data INRAE portal thus helps to:

  • – complete and strengthen the service offered to the research teams of the institute and their partners in order to facilitate the management and sharing of scientific data;
  • – meet French regulatory obligations regarding open research data.
