Research is the application of scientific methods to problem solving. It has not always been evident to teachers and other educators that scientific methodology is important in education. Very likely, this neglect of scientific methodology has occurred because research has been considered irrelevant to educators. Teachers have too many practical problems to worry about ivory tower research, or at least the belief goes thus.
