Using Simulation for Research

Abstract

The fundamental exploration of abstract theoretical models provides powerful knowledge but is often insufficient. Cyber space is a complex space that is impossible to mathematically model in every aspect and becomes even more so when human behavior is included. Using computers to simulate complex models can help explore system interactions, component performance, and theoretical limits. Simulations allow the possibility to explore the effects of different parameters and may provide a glimpse into how future systems would operate with existing systems.
