Digital TV
Originally, U.S. development of digital TV was motivated by a desire to reclaim the television manufacturing industry from Japan and Korea. By providing better pictures—a new video experience called high-definition television (HDTV)—U.S. manufacturers hoped to re-establish their former market leadership in television production and sales. During the 10-year process of defining HDTV, the technology metamorphosed into a method to deliver other media to the consumer. It now can deliver data service and multiple channels, where one existed before. Therefore, digital television is an obvious market driver for RBB. Digital television also resolves many of the key challenges facing analog TV.
