Chapter 3: Types, parameters, and reliability of residual current devices
Abstract
This chapter presents nominal parameters of residual current devices upon which these devices are characterized by manufacturers. The following are explained, among others: rated residual operating current, rated current, rated residual making and breaking capacity, rated conditional residual short-circuit current, operating characteristics in terms of the residual current waveform shape, and delay in tripping. Special constructions of residual current devices as portable residual current devices (PRCD), a device with the emergency STOP function and a device detecting neutral-to-earth fault, are described.
