Resilience Engineering: Chronicling the Emergence of Confused Consensus

My contribution to this book on resilience engineering consists of a chapter that attempts to capture the emergence and exchange of ideas during the symposium (held in Söderköping, Sweden, during October 2004) – ideas that together seem to move towards a type of confused consensus on resilience engineering (and sometimes towards a common understand of what it is not). From the presentations, arguments, claims, hypotheses, questions and suggestions, I have extracted themes that seemed to animate many of the ideas that generated discussions, and discussions that generated ideas.
