MOST PROJECTS ARE DIFFICULT. Without adequate processes there will be chaos and they are certain to fail. Regardless of the formal authority of the project leader, projects undertaken using effective processes will have much better chances for success.
The foundations of project management are well established, and your ability to control your project will be significantly enhanced by clearly outlining project processes and gaining willing cooperation from your whole project team to apply them. When contributors understand what to do and how to do it, the project leader’s job is far more straightforward, and keeping things moving in the right direction requires little formal authority.
