As America begins recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a collective need to ask—what has the COVID-19 pandemic shown us about our policies and institutions? The health system, the economy, and the social and governance institutions offered a wide range of support and assistance. Yet the COVID-19 pandemic revealed the weakest links within this system, particularly as it relates to the relationship between psychological factors and policy response. To examine this system, I turn to the concept of “decent work” to identify the weaknesses and strengths within the system and identify policies and practices that can help us in the future.
