This is the shortest chapter in this book, but it is an important chapter, as the exposure triangle—how aperture, shutter speed and ISO affect a photograph—is the foundation of understanding exposure.

Every picture that you have ever taken and every picture that you will take has one main element: Light. Divide that one main element in sub-elements and you have highlight and shadows. It’s how those sub-elements are recorded and processed that makes a good exposure—a good exposure being personal and relative, just as with all art forms.
