A person's professional and personal journey is influenced from their formative years where they learn life skills, develop personal values, make social connections, gain an appreciation for others, and – for some – develop a desire to help those in need. This section provides a brief overview of the author's preteen experiences in dealing with the quandaries of others who were supposed to be nurturing him (family, friends, and neighbors), including some of the drivers of their problematical behaviors including marital dilemmas, mental and physical health challenges, violence, alcoholism, and infidelity.
