Backup and Recovery 101
Oracle backup and recovery refers to the theory and practice of protecting a real-life Oracle database against data loss and recovering data after a loss. You can lose data either because of a technical problem, such as media failure, or because of errors made by the users, such as a wrong update or an overeager sysadmin or DBA deleting the wrong file. Oracle backup is the set of concepts, strategies, and steps to make copies of a database so you can use them to recover from a failure/error situation.
