I used Scilab quite heavily throughout this book for numerical calculations and examples. In this appendix you will find a brief Scilab tutorial.
Some history first. Scilab is an open-source scientific software package developed in the early 1990s by researchers from two French organizations—INRIA (National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control) and ENPC (Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées)—which followed developments undertaken in the 1980s. The first official release, Scilab 1.1, was in January 1994.
