Most people don’t think too much about tables of contents. But there are those among us who love them. There are so many ways to be creative, but it really helps to know your software so you can implement your creative ideas easily.
Tables of contents (TOCs) are designed very differently for books, magazines, newsletters, and other publications. When you bump up against one of these projects, be sure to look around and see what others are doing, what works, and what doesn’t. Always, though, you’ll find that the same basic rules apply: contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity.
