PRE-SHOT WARM-UP
Before you jump into the shot, there are a few things you need to consider. Fight the urge to just start making splines and see what happens. That way lies chaos … and a significantly more complicated shot. Training your eyes and brain to visually isolate areas within the focus object is very important when you’re learning to roto. It isn’t an easy thing to do and can take a few tries before it begins to take shape (pun completely intended). If you’re patient and stick with it, however, these techniques will become second nature; after a while you won’t even need to think about these beginning steps. This chapter will give you an idea of what to look for before you get started on the shot.
