A Selection of Some Commonly Used Terms

10-100: walkie talk for “in the bathroom”

Abby Singer: the second-last shot of the day

Action vehicle: a car that appears in shot

AFS: After false start, when you have rolled camera but not called action, and then cut

Alan Smithee: a nom de plume used by people who wish to remove their names from the credits

APOC: assistant production office coordinator

Apple box: wooden crates that come in quarter, half, and full sizes

Back to one: reset to first positions

Base camp: also known as unit base, the location where all of the cast trailers, honey wagon, facilities, etc. are parked

Bounce: lighting term; any surface used to reflect, or “bounce” light onto a subject

Butcher’s: as in, “to have a butcher’s,” ...
