Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)
As we mentioned in Chapter 1, GSM was originally developed as a European standard within ETSI. 3GPP was established in 1998 in order to unite a number of different regional standardization bodies for the creation of a global cellular standard. These regional bodies are referred to as Organizational Partners. As of 2009, the partners were ETSI (Europe), ARIB (Japan), ATIS (US), CCSA (China), TTA (Korea) and TTC (Japan).
