This chapter addresses the concept of human rating as applied to space systems. As defined here, this process recently has become a formal process for NASA programs and, within the U.S. law, for non-NASA American operators. This now formal NASA process captures and consolidates the past successful practices of NASA for application in all future NASA programs.
