For this image I made a fully tonal salted paper print by first converting the image to monochrome and making the salt negative. Then I reopened the original color image, did a CMYK split, and printed CMY on top of the fully tonal salt image. Doing it this way, salt influences all colors with a slight antiquing of the overall color palette. Printing salt with the K negative of a CMYK split prints a less salt-dominant image because the salt only prints the blacks.
