The Java Development Kit (JDK) is a set of command-line utilities that are used to create, compile, and run Java programs. The JDK requires a command prompt because you run each of its programs by typing in its name along with any arguments that are needed.

When you use the MS-DOS
Prompt command, a window opens in which you can type commands and use MS-DOS commands to navigate through the folders on your system. The starting folder will be the
\WINDOWS folder on your primary hard drive (usually
