The four weeks in this book provide a thorough introduction to the Swing class library, the most extensive improvement to the Java language introduced in version 2.
The term introduction may be discouraging, given the amount of Swing-related material that has been covered up to this point—not to mention what lies ahead today and during Week 4.
However, the term is appropriate, given the complexity and sophistication of Swing's windowing toolkit. There are more than 110 classes in the
javax.swing package, just 1 of 10 packages in Java 2 that compose the Swing class library.
