Appendix B. Installing Perl on a Unix System

This appendix explains how to obtain and install Perl for a computer running Unix. Unlike Windows, installing Perl on a Unix computer involves compiling Perl from the source code. Fortunately, thanks to tools such as the Configure program and make, this process is pretty straightforward. However, it does mean that certain tools should be present on your computer before you get started. This appendix explains which tools are required to install Perl, and where to get them. It also provides step-by-step instructions on performing the installation.
