People migrate to Movable Type for a number of reasons. Some bloggers start out with hosted solutions such as Blogger or TypePad, which appeal to many first-time bloggers because they don't have to be installed and configured, and then decide they want more control over their content. Others might start with a simpler, but not as full-featured tool, such as Blosxom, and later decide that they want to move to something with more oomph.
