Using TrackBack Auto-Discovery
Up to now, when you wanted an entry on your site to send a TrackBack ping to another site, you've had to enter the other site's TrackBack URL when you created your post. Even if you were just copying and pasting them, you must have been thinking to yourself, “There has to be a better way.” Well, of course there is: TrackBack auto-discovery.
The TrackBack specification provides a mechanism for connecting the URL of the resource being linked to with the TrackBack URL that receives pings for that resource. This means that it's possible for Movable Type and other TrackBack-savvy tools to automatically discover the TrackBack URL for a particular resource when you create an entry that links to that resource.
