Understanding Metrics and Dimensions

If the stock reporting isn’t to your liking, Google Analytics also lets you create all manner of custom reports. These reports are built around combinations of metrics and dimensions. We’ll look at these components separately.

Metrics

The metrics available in custom reports track important data points. Think of a metric as a column in your report—the more metrics you track, the more columns you add to the report.

There are five types of top-level metrics available, as follows:

Site Usage, including bounces, bounce rate, entrances, exits, % exit, visitors, new visits, unique visitors, % new visits, time ...
