The Java Developer’s Kit (JDK) from Sun Microsystems provides the environment for all Java development. Over the years, Sun has renamed the development kit from the JDK to the Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) Software Development Kit (SDK; however, the purpose of the tools and libraries remain the same—to assist developers in their efforts to write quality, platform independent, object oriented software.
