Chapter 1. SAN fabric 3 High- bandwidth- utilization servers ( such as tape backup servers) must also be on the same switch as the SVC. Putting them on a separate switch can cause unexpected SAN congestion problems. Putting a high- bandwidth server on an edge switch is a waste of an ISL. If at all possible, plan for the maximum size configuration that you ever expect your SVC cluster to reach. As you will see in later parts of this chapter, the design of the SAN can change radically for larger numbers of hosts.
