30 SAN Volume Controller: Best Practices and Performance Guidelines The cache component periodically reclaims resources used to cache blocks so that it can cache different blocks. The cache component uses a least recently used ( LRU) policy for selecting those blocks that it will no longer cache. However, the cache component will not be able to reclaim resources when the cache is full of pinned data. Pinned data is modified data for an offline VDisk, that is, it cannot be destaged, because the back- end disks are unavailable for I/ O.
