Understanding Connections
The universe connection determines how users connect to the data warehouse or data source when they build or refresh a query. When you import a universe from the repository, the IDT creates a shortcut to the shared connection in the repository. If you are creating a brand-new universe, your first step is either to create a new connection or to import a shared connection from the repository to create the local shortcut.
The username and password used for the universe connection can be the same as those used to authenticate a user in the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise repository, or they may be different.
