The Influence of the Network on Performance
As mentioned before, the productivity of a user in a classical online transaction processing system like SAP R/3 is affected mostly by the response time of the system (see Figure 7-1). Low response times are the Holy Grail of a mySAP.com infrastructure. From a user's perspective, response time is the time waiting for a system response after hitting the <Enter> key. Even seconds of delay easily accumulates to hours and days over time, especially when multiplied by hundreds of users. Therefore, IT investments keeping the network response time to a minimum are usually worthwhile.
