Chapter 8. APO User Interfaces and the PP/DS Module
This text should be used both as an instructional tool for first-time learners and as a reference tool for developers and experienced users. Unfortunately, the needs of these two reader communities are often divergent, and that is particularly the case in the sections addressing actual employment of APO modules. For every module addressed in this text—demand planning (DP), supply network planning (SNP), and production planning and detailed scheduling (PP/DS)—we ask that you carefully consider your own learning in choosing a reading sequence between sections on “Configuring” and “Using.” In some cases we have elected to place “Configuring” first in the sequence because, of course, in actual application it will be necessary to configure each module prior to their use. While this is appropriate to experienced application, it may not be the best way to learn the module for the first time.
We often find that for purposes of learning it is wise to consider one of the “seven habits of successful people” and “start with the end in mind.” Configuration details will seem very abstract, particularly for people thus far unfamiliar with SAP tools and software, and it will be hard to establish an early mental link between configuration settings and their final use.
