EXAMPLE 20  Time Series “Strip Plot”

Purpose: Describe a technique for visually displaying very long time series.

First, let’s get some long time series data. During a drought a couple of years ago, our local water supply lakes were having trouble keeping up with the water demand, and their levels were dangerously low. I was curious whether the levels had been that low in any previous years, and I found the historical lake level data and created this plot to answer my question.
