This chapter aims to provide an introduction to satellite internetworking with terrestrial networks in terms of related access and transit transmission networks. It also provides an introduction to network traffic related to user plane, control plane and management plane, network hypothetical reference connection, traffic engineering, network signalling schemes, performance objectives, SDH over satellite, and internetworking between the satellite and mobile ad hoc networks.
