CHAPTER 10Synthesizing Scaled Conversations

Scaling conversations that successfully surface insight from many people has one major, final, component. You need to be willing to listen. And learn. And take appropriate action whenever necessary. This is easier said than done. It is easier to say that the firehose of feedback you received was so vast it is impossible to trust and turn into action. When you surface actual insight in the form of candid thoughts prioritized by many people, you need to dig in and unlock the value. This isn't a burden. Far from it. It's a skillset you selfishly need to acquire to make sure you can experience all of the tangible and intangible value of inclusion at scale.

Learning how to scale conversations is a process. Learning how to identify the hierarchy of scaled conversations and move between them takes time. So, it only makes sense that understanding how to approach evaluating what comes out of a scaled conversation also requires a skill set. There's a five‐step process to synthesizing what occurs in a scaled conversation, and those steps are what I'll walk you through in this chapter.

  1. Create a representational dissemination group
  2. Overcome reptilian survival brain
  3. Demonstrate listening and learning
  4. Adopt language
  5. Commit to action (even if the action is to take none)
