In addition to honing your craft as a screenwriter, it never occurs to many writers that being a competent writer is only one component to being a successful screenwriter. The critical secondary component is the pitch. Pitch is a contraction of the phrase sales pitch, and a good pitch is a concise verbal presentation of an idea, story, or screenplay for a film or television film made by a screenwriter in the hope of selling a script or idea, or to be hired for a writing assignment.
